Volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to become familiar with the school, meet other parents, and show your child you care about his or her education.  If you would like to become involved in the Grimsley community, all you need to do is call our Volunteer Coordinator, Valerie Stern, sstern@triad.rr.com, or contact one of the Committee Chairs noted below.   No matter what your skills or schedule, we can find a place for you.

Some of the many volunteer opportunities include the following:

 Beautification Committee

If you see something blooming at Grimsley, chances are that the Beautification committee is responsible.  If you would be willing to help this committee, please call Niki Bloomquist at 288-8660.   Boy Scouts take note: improving the Grimsley grounds makes for a great Eagle project.

Counseling Center
Counseling Center is in serious need of volunteers.

Our Counseling Center cannot function without some dedicated volunteers.  Ideally Counseling needs help every day, all day but the critical times are from 10 to 12 and 12 to 2 on a daily basis.  We would like to set up a monthly volunteer schedule (similar to the Main Office) ASAP.  Please contact me if you can commit to a certain day of the week/ month and a certain time slot.  Also, please pass this information on to other Grimsley parents.  This is an urgent and important request so your consideration in this manner is greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Valerie Stern, sstern@triad.rr.com.

Project Graduation

Are you more of a one project kind of volunteer?  Put your name down for Project Graduation or one of our other special projects.  These events require a massive amount of manpower but the commitment is succinct, that is to say, you are finished and ready to go home after a few hours.  Right now we are looking for our Project Graduation volunteers.  Project Graduation is an all night, alcohol- and drug-free celebration we organize for the night of graduation in order to help our seniors celebrate their success in a safe, but fun-filled environment.  Since many seniors' parents have out-of-town guests, and many seniors would prefer to celebrate without their parents being present, we rely heavily on the participation of parents of underclassmen.   Please help us keep this tradition alive by volunteering for one of the many jobs during the night.  (Typically the parent volunteers have as much fun as the kids and keep coming back year after year.)  Contact Susan Gentry jfgentry@bellsouth.net if you would be willing to help.

Hospitality Committee

For those who love entertaining or, more importantly, want to be well thought of by the teachers and staff, put your name in to help with Hospitality.  This group organizes and provides refreshments for deserving faculty and staff each month.  The hospitality chairperson also recruits parents to chaperone dances on and off campus.  Your student will love that!  Nancy Winborn at nwinborn@triad.rr.com and Gay Brogden danagay@triad.rr.com will be heading the charge.

Proctoring

Need some quiet and a little time to think?   Volunteers are needed several times during the year to proctor competency exams and state tests.
Volunteer opportunities arise regularly at Grimsley.  The PTSA will try to keep parents informed of volunteer needs.  By volunteering you become a part of your student's high school experience.  The rewards are great.  Let us know you are willing.  E-mail Valerie Stern, sstern@triad.rr.com.
